Autumn Woodland Wedding Theme

Autumn Woodland Wedding Theme, Passionately Sam
Autumn is such a pretty time of year, so what better wedding theme to choose than an autumn woodland theme. A few weeks ago I attended a wedding planned to this theme and it really was beautiful. The wedding had been planned 3 years in advance meaning there were lots of perfect little details which made their day extra special and of course, lots of opportunities for photos!

Firstly the bit I couldn't take any photos for; during the service at a local church a white owl was used as ring bearer. Being an animal lover I thought this was a beautiful idea, the owl which flew in from the back of the church with the rings tied to its foot with a ribbon. Not sure if you call it a foot? We'll go with foot.
Fast forward a little, the venue itself was Packington Moor which a beautiful barn setting, perfect for a woodland theme. Think exposed brickwork, high beams and subtle lighting which just create the loveliest calm and tranquil atmosphere.
On arrival we were greeted with complementary drinks and canape's, unfortunately I could only get a photo of the drinks as the canape's were disappearing quicker than they were brought out.

Hello peach schnapps, white wine and lemonade combo with apple, grape and raspberry fruit pieces. The fruit complimeted the fruity taste of the peach schnapps perfectly. Must remember to make my own.

The table layouts and decorations were subtle but pretty. The little girl in me just screamed fairy lights, fairy lights! The archways throughout the ceiling fitted in with the theme of the wedding as if they were made for it.

This amazing hand drawn table plan was the work of the bride, being quite an arty person she put this together herself. I think a table plan like this just screams personality and really shows off her talents... if only I could draw that well!

Quite fittingly, the tables were all named after trees and the centerpieces give away the wedding theme entirely. Not that that's a bad thing of course, we all want someone to guess our wedding theme from the table centerpieces, for me that would be great compliment to my yet-to-exist wedding planning/table decorating skills.

Lets talk favours and place cards. The favours were two of everyone's favourite things.. Biscuits and candles. What better combination could you ask for really? As you can see the biscuits were deer and the candles were pine cones. I haven't yet burnt the candles as they're just too pretty! The place cards were hand cut leaves, such a personal, simple touch which just worked so well.

Moving on to the food, of course everyone wants to know about the food, the traditional three course wedding breakfast was beautifully presented. Starter was goats cheese ravioli, confit shallots with tomato and basil vinaigrette.

Although I do like goats cheese, this one was a little too strong for me but overall very tasty.

For main I had the roast baby pumpkin with spiced red lentils, coriander and coconut sambal.

Although it sounds very posh it's full of flavours that compliment each other so well. The pumpkin was mild and soft against the spiced lentils, team these with the sambal and it was just a flavour sensation. As you can likely guess, the pumpkin main fits well with the autumn theme, not something I would have thought of myself being honest but it was such a good choice!

Everyone had the same trio of desserts which were so elegantly laid out I didn't want to eat it and ruin the plate composition. I believe that may be the first time I have ever considered 'plate composition' over eating dessert, clearly something wrong with me. The trio consisted of a triple chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream, iced passion fruit parfait with macadamia nut biscuit and a tower of vanilla shortbread with fresh raspberries and clotted cream. Doesn't that description just sound devine? Spoiler alert - it was.

Following the glass of champagne and the toast of thanks, which may have followed several glasses of wine, I got chance to take pictures of the cake.

The cake. The cake is the biggest descriptive understatement of the century in this instance. The magnificent, intricate, masterpiece of art penned as the wedding cake was quite simply a thing of beauty. The amount of detail is just spectacular and somehow I am doubtful many would be able to top this wedding cake. The bride designed this cake years ago as a fantasy idea, however a family friend offered to actually make it. It was started around 9 months before the wedding and every single detail from the mushrooms to the leaves and cake toppers were all hand crafted. The lady that achieved this has a real talent!

A few things I missed taking photo's of were a bird box to post messages for the bride and groom and a rustic card sack. Every detail planned for the day was all based on the autumn woodland theme perfectly. Attending the wedding has given me a lot of inspiration for planning a theme for my own wedding in the future.

What do you think of this woodland wedding theme? Did you have a theme at your wedding or are you planning one? I'd love to know!
