Visit To Attingham Park, Shrewsbury - National Trust

A few weekends ago we visited the stunning Attingham Park in Shrewsbury. Me and Scott were looking for somewhere to visit for the afternoon with our friend where we could take our dogs, so a quick google later and we're on our way to Attingham Park. The park is home to an 18th century mansion and is set in the middle of woodlands which are great for taking your dog for a day out. Entry is pretty cheap at just £7.50 for entry to the park, walled garden and playfield (including gift aid). We didn't opt for the whole property entry as our labradors unfortunately aren't permitted inside, luckily it didn't rain much!

The park has a dog policy which is fairly simple to follow. There are short lead zones, on lead zones and off lead zones, all self explanatory. The on lead zones are focused around where there is wildlife and a lot of children around and the areas are signposted so you can't miss it (unless you walk around with your eyes closed of course!). They have a policy you can view here if you're unsure.

As you walk though the entrance you will follow a small path which leads you to the courtyard area which has a small shop and a cafe with outdoor seating.

After exiting the courtyard we came across a display by the Feather Perfect Falconry, the staff were promoting experience days and fundraising. We were told that one of the birds didn't like dogs so as we walked up to the enclosure he started squawking at Harvey and Bella, Harvey felt the need to bark back at him so we quickly  moved on else we would have had a stand off!

We took a walk through the park towards the nearest off lead zone where the labs enjoyed playing and chasing each other through mud and water (we have mucky pups if you hadn't already guessed). The views and greenery around is beautiful, I obviously took some photos but they don't do the beauty of the place justice.

The dogs had fun playing in the water and were running around the water bank near the bridge, meaning they both ended up sliding everywhere which I ended up accidentally getting a picture of! I find this picture extremely amusing, I can't help but laugh to myself when I look at it!

How cute do the two of them look strolling together?
A little walk later and we ended up near the edge of the deer park where the labs needed to be back on their leads. The scenery across the deer park really is worth visiting for for the views.

We came across this tree which is around 650 years old. I thought I was getting old...s of years old! I thought as getting old...

Being a little bit of a geek (and I find it interesting) I took a picture of this information post so I could read it later.

The deer were all crowded around the one end of the deer park, all very calmly just chomping away with not a care in the world that all these humans and dogs were walking past (they're clearly used to it). I got as close as I safely could to get photos, but at this point it was raining so I did end up with a lot of blurry ones unfortunately.

Following our walk around the exterior of the mansion, you can follow a path that leads you back to the courtyard. Before leaving we stopped at the cafe which has an undercover outdoor seating area so you can stop for a snack with your pooches. We had a mix of sandwiches, pasta and cake which is very good quality for the price. I usually would have taken a picture but it proved a little difficult with two labradors wanting to get in on the food!

Our afternoon out at Attingham Park was a great experience and even better enjoyed as being a dog lover Harvey got to accompany us and enjoy a few hours out somewhere new.

Have you been to Attingham Park or any of the National Trust attractions?
